My Story
My name is Alex Mackenzie and I’m a stand-up comedian! What started as a small vlog called An Experiment Called Life— documenting my journey from quitting my job to chasing happiness — has turned into a career beyond anything I ever imagined. I still believe life is an experiment, and for me the solution has always been laughter and happiness.
I’m from Prince George, BC, where I spent over a decade working at the local pulp mill. I became a power engineer, later trained as an industrial instrumentation mechanic, and by my mid-20s I was living the life society told me I needed: homeowner, good vehicle, and a six-figure job. But I wasn’t happy. I was stuck in a job that left me unfulfilled, working long hours to pay bills that never seemed to end.
Then I found stand-up comedy. At first it was just a hobby — a set once a month at a local venue. But it lit something inside me. When a comedy club opened in my hometown, I was able to perform weekly, sometimes multiple times a night, and my passion for comedy exploded. Soon I was traveling across BC and Alberta, opening for some of the biggest names in Canadian comedy.
Eventually, I took the leap. I quit the job I had worked at for 12 years, sold my house and everything I owned, and bought an RV to live and travel with my dog, Finley. That decision changed everything. Comedy became my life, and the adventure that followed has been more rewarding than I ever dreamed.
Since then, I’ve performed coast to coast, sold out theatres across Canada and Australia, been featured on Amazon Prime, produced multiple comedy specials An Experiment Called Life (2023) and my most recent Happy Camper (2025). I even performed in front of more than 2,000 people at a self produced arena show. Online, my videos have been viewed more than 100 million times, introducing my comedy to audiences around the world.
Along the way, I’ve continued creating. I host my podcast An Experiment Called Life, documented the journey on YouTube, and built a community on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook where millions of people connect with my daily comedy.
And this is still just the beginning. My mission is to spread happiness through laughter, to create nights people will never forget, and to prove that chasing your dream is always worth it. Thank you for being part of this experiment called life — I couldn’t do it without you.
